Using SchoolKiT's enterprise solution, Adams County School District #14 leverages NCLB to fund systemic technology integration professional development and instructional materials for every teacher and student.
Customer Profile
District: Adams County School District #14
State: Colorado
Schools: 13
Students: 6500
Teachers: 500
Challenge Solution Results
The district needed systemic technology integration professional development and instructional materials for every teacher and student that would help meet the demands of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act's core goals of highly qualified teachers and creating high performing schools. The district is deploying the edClass curriculum resource library for student learning and technology integration.

pd21 is provided for every teacher in order to have ongoing professional development in the area of quality teaching and learning and technology integration.
  • High quality resources for student Learning
  • Embedded professional development for teachers
  • ICT Literacy skills taught in contextual learning experience
  • Meeting of NCLB requirements
  • Increased professional development participation
  • Effective low cost professional development
District level administrators must be wary of expensive instructional software programs which profess alignment with NCLB, yet don't provide teachers with contextualized professional development or instructional materials to meaningfully integrate technology into teaching and learning. In a time of high accountability and shrinking technology budgets, where can decision-makers find effective solutions that are affordable?

SchoolKiT's affordable enterprise solution helped Adams County #14 solve that problem.

Covering 52 square miles, and serving nearly 7,000 students with a staff of just over 900, Adams County #14 is the 20th largest school district in Colorado, yet it is one of the most technologically advanced in the Mile High State.

District Technology Trainer Dave Tarwater attributes this to a shared vision for developing students' ability to acquire, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information. Dave said recently, "The bottom line is that we want the use of technology to be ubiquitous and aligned with our education technology and information literacy beliefs, so our students are prepared to achieve future success. We found that SchoolKiT's Enterprise Solution is affordable, easy to use, and is helping us to ensure that our staff and students are poised to show greater gains in student achievement and professional development."

Taking advantage of the flexible use of Title Funds offered in the NCLB legislation, Adams County #14 selected SchoolKiT's Enterprise Solution based upon their identified goal of offering high quality professional development so that all teachers effectively integrate technology into their curricula and instruction to improve student learning. Dave and his staff are also implementing district-wide training, communication, and assessment models to ensure the success of all students, teachers, administrators, support personnel, parents and the community at large.

Dave goes on further to say, "SchoolKiT's edClass activBooks help students and teachers focus on the curriculum rather than technology 'bells and whistles.' SchoolKiT's pd21 offers our teachers great flexibility in choosing learning paths and goals that best meet their individual needs. I get really excited hearing comments from both students and teachers after they have used SchoolKiT, such as, 'I didn't know you could do that!' or, 'Now I can see a real use for technology in my classroom!'"

Innovative teachers like Kevin Minch are helping to lead this charge. A twenty-year veteran educator and Special Education teacher, Kevin said recently, "I'm so excited about using SchoolKiT because I'm enjoying learning and seeing how I can use the technology I have to help kids learn."

Dave went on to say, "With SchoolKiT's cost effective enterprise solution, our technology expenditures are having a meaningful impact on improving teaching and learning in our classrooms."

About SchoolKiT Solutions

edClass is a complete library of classroom-ready integration activities that improve student achievement. edClass activities are presented as small, interactive electronic books - called activBooks - that open on students' and teachers' computers to guide them successfully through effective curriculum-based lessons.

pd21 enables an enterprise-level approach to professional development by equipping administrators with the online content and tools they need to provide for and manage the learning of many teachers across multiple schools in a cohesive and systematic manner. With pd21's ongoing professional development resources and classroom-ready 'best-practice' curriculum activities, districts realize an immediate increase in the amount and quality of technology infusion in their schools, while achieving continuous school improvement and institutional change.
